Soldometer

How much does that listing actually sell?

Amazon doesn't publish sales numbers. It publishes clues — the “bought in past month” badge and the Best Sellers Rank — and leaves you to guess what they add up to. Soldometer reads both, does the arithmetic in the open, and gives you a monthly figure with its working shown.

01

How the estimate works

Two public signals, used in the right order. Most tools bury this; here it is in the open, because a number you can't explain is a number you shouldn't act on.

SIGNAL 01Amazon's own bought badgePrimary

Listings show “5K+ bought in past month.” That's Amazon's measured sales, bucketed down to a floor: 5K+ means at least 5,000 and under the next bucket. We estimate floor × 1.2, with a likely range of floor to floor × 1.5. When the badge exists, it wins — it's the seller's own platform reporting its own tills.

SIGNAL 02Best Sellers Rank curveFallback

No badge? We model sales from Best Sellers Rank with a category power law: units = A × BSR−b. Each category has its own curve, because rank #500 in Pet Supplies is a very different business from rank #500 in Books. BSR estimates carry a wider ±40% range — treat them as a compass, not a counter.

SIGNAL 03The two signals audit each otherReality check

Enter both and we cross-check them. If rank and badge disagree by more than 3×, we say so on the result and trust the badge — ranks go stale and subcategory ranks flatter a listing, while the badge is refreshed from actual orders.

monthly units = A × BSR^(−b) × marketplace scale

Calibrated to published anchors: US Pet Supplies at BSR ~516 ≈ 11,600 units/mo, and US Home & Kitchen at BSR 100 ≈ 6,000 units/mo (~200/day). Amazon.ca moves roughly 12% of Amazon.com's volume at the same rank, so .ca BSR estimates are scaled by 0.12 — a #100 rank in Canada is a much smaller market than a #100 rank in the US, and the tool prices that in instead of flattering you.

02

Finding the badge and the rank on any listing

Everything the estimator needs is printed on the product page itself. It takes about twenty seconds.

1

Open the product page

On Amazon.ca or Amazon.com, open the exact variant you'd buy — different sizes and pack counts can have different badges.

2

Read the badge under the title

Just below the rating stars you'll often see text like “5K+ bought in past month.” Copy it exactly — the K means thousands, so 5K+ enters as 5K+. No badge? The listing likely sells under ~50/month, or Amazon hasn't shown one for it; use the rank instead.

3

Scroll to “Product information”

Find Best Sellers Rank, e.g. “#45 in Beauty & Personal Care.” Use the first, main-category rank, not a subcategory rank further down the line — subcategory ranks make slow products look fast.

4

Note the price, then estimate

Enter the price the badge belongs with (watch for coupons and variant pricing), pick the main category, and run it. Revenue is simply units × price — which is why a $25 product at 1,000/mo can beat a $9 product at 4,000/mo.

03

Reading your result

The verdict is a plain-English read on monthly unit velocity. It describes this listing's demand — not whether the niche is open to you. A Hot listing with 40,000 reviews is proven demand behind a very high wall; a Steady listing with 300 reviews may be the better door.

VerdictUnits / monthWhat it usually means
Hot5,000+Serious volume. Expect entrenched incumbents, real ad spend, and price pressure.
Strong1,000 – 4,999A real business is happening here. Worth a hard look at reviews and margins.
Steady300 – 999Dependable niche demand. Often the sweet spot for a smaller seller.
Slow50 – 299Thin. Only works with strong margin, a bundle, or near-zero competition.
Barely sellingUnder 50Walk away unless you know something the listing doesn't show.

Also on the result: the likely range (plan on the low end, hope for the middle), revenue (units × price, before any fees), and estimated new reviews per month — roughly 1–3% of buyers review, so a listing gaining 100+ reviews a month is compounding its moat fast. Run the profit check before falling in love with any revenue number: 15% referral fee plus FBA quietly eats a third of many prices.

04

The same estimate, without the typing

The Soldometer Chrome extension runs this exact estimator automatically on every Amazon.ca and Amazon.com product page you open — badge, rank, price and reviews read live from the page, the card sitting right on the listing. It is a two-minute manual install (load-unpacked in Chrome) while its Chrome Web Store listing is in preparation — it's not on the Web Store yet. When the store listing launches, the pricing below applies: the first 1,000 people to activate become Founding Members, free forever. Everyone after that starts with a free month.

Pricing — Founding 1,000, then $5/month

The estimator on this page stays free. The Chrome extension is where pricing lives — and it's deliberately simple: be early and you never pay. Arrive after the founding spots are gone and you still get a full month free before anything is charged.

Activation 1,001 onward

Standard

$5 / month

First month free, then $5/month. Same full extension as Founding — no feature tiers, no upsell wall inside the tool.

  • First month free — full access from day one
  • Then $5/month, cancel anytime in two clicks
  • Full extension: product-page card + tile banners everywhere
  • Badge-first estimates, Buy Box & Amazon-selling checks
  • Profit check, watchlist, history & one-tap Check

The free month is a proper trial: you add a card when you start it, nothing is charged until day 31, and you can cancel during the trial and pay $0. Payments run through ExtensionPay + Stripe (standard processor fees apply), and subscriptions only activate on Web Store–installed copies.

1 · Install freeEveryone installs free from the Chrome Web Store. No paywall on the download itself.
2 · Activate & claimOn first use you claim with an email. Claims 1–1,000 are stamped Founding; the live counter shows spots left.
3 · After 1,000New activations start the free month automatically. Day 31 is the first $5 charge — only if you stay.

Where things stand today: the extension (v0.7.0) is in manual-install testing and the Web Store listing is in preparation, so founding claims haven't opened yet and no counter is running. This page will carry the live “spots left” counter the day the store listing goes live. The website estimator above remains free regardless — no account, nothing to claim.

Estimating Amazon sales accurately — an honest guide

First, the limit nobody can remove

Amazon does not publish how many units a competitor's listing sells. Not to us, not to anyone. Every sales figure from any third-party tool, this page included, is an estimate built from public signals like the bought badge and Best Sellers Rank. Any tool that shows you a number like “7,342 units” with no range is dressing up a guess as a measurement. That's why Soldometer always shows the likely range beside the headline number.

Why the badge beats the rank

The “bought in past month” badge is the closest thing to ground truth a public signal gets: it's Amazon summarising its own order data. Its weakness is coarseness — it's a floor in a bucket, so 5K+ could be 5,100 or nearly the next bucket up. Best Sellers Rank is finer-grained but indirect: rank is relative to every other product in the category, it moves with category-wide seasonality, and a listing's rank can be hours or days stale. Use the badge for the headline, the rank as the audit.

The Canada adjustment most tools skip

Amazon.ca is a much smaller marketplace than Amazon.com — roughly an eighth to a tenth of the volume at the same rank. Tools calibrated on US data and applied blindly to .ca listings overstate Canadian sales by up to 8×. Soldometer scales .ca BSR estimates by 0.12 automatically. (The badge needs no scaling — 5K+ bought means 5,000 buyers on either marketplace.)

What an estimate can't tell you

Velocity is not opportunity. A 6,000/mo listing tells you demand exists; it says nothing about the 44,000 reviews defending it, the brand's ad budget, return rates, or whether the price you see survives coupons and Subscribe & Save. And a single snapshot hides trend — a badge photographed in December describes December. Serious research re-checks a listing across weeks and reads the one- and two-star reviews for the opening a new product could walk through. Use this tool to shortlist fast, then do that slower work on the survivors.

A worked example, verified end to end

Apple EarPods (USB-C) on Amazon.ca: $24.98, showing a 5K+ bought badge and 18,682 reviews. Badge-first math: 5,000 × 1.2 = 6,000 units/month, likely range 5,000–7,500, revenue CA$149,880/month, verdict Hot. That's pre-loaded in the estimator above — tap “Load the EarPods example” and change one input at a time to feel how sensitive the outputs are.

07

What a visit to a page like this is worth

This site is free and supported by the labelled ad slots you've seen. The economics of that are public and simple — here's the honest math, because “fraction of a cent per visit” is literally how display advertising works. Figures are illustrative, not a promise: actual rates depend on the ad network, visitor geography, and niche (seller/finance tools sit at the better-paid end).

Typical display range: $5–$20 for tool/finance content.
$100estimated ad revenue / month
≈ 1.0¢ per pageview

Worked check: 10,000 pageviews at a $10 RPM = 10 × $10 = $100/month, and $10 ÷ 1,000 views = 1¢ per view. At a $5 RPM a view is worth about 0.5¢; at $20, about 2¢. Networks like Google AdSense pay the publisher once earnings pass their payout threshold ($100 with AdSense).

08

Changelog

The extension is young and moving fast. Everything below shipped in October 2026.

Pricing

Founding 1,000 model locked. First 1,000 activations free forever; everyone after gets their first month free, then $5/month. The model applies to the Chrome extension at Web Store launch — the website estimator on this page stays free. Payments will run via ExtensionPay + Stripe.

0.4.2

Buy Box fix. Listings using Amazon's accordion-style buy box (the One-time purchase / Subscribe & Save layout) now report their seller properly — before this, the card could claim Amazon wasn't selling a listing Amazon was in fact selling. If a seller genuinely can't be read, the card now says so instead of guessing.

0.4.1

Slimmer banners. Tile banners shrank to a one-line strip that only appears when a tile actually carries data, plus a popup setting for where banners show: everywhere, research pages only, or off.

0.4.0

Banners on every Amazon screen. Home page, Deals store, Amazon Haul, storefronts and carousels — not just browse grids. Tiles with no sales signal say so rather than inventing a number.

0.3.0

Grid banners. A compact banner under every tile on Best Sellers and browse pages: estimated units, revenue, the signal behind it, and a one-tap Buy Box check.

0.2.0

Market data, profit calculator, history, watchlist. The card gained a Market section (Buy Box holder, whether Amazon itself is selling), an FBA profit calculator checked against your own cost bars, an on-device record of listings you've viewed, and a watchlist with target prices.

0.1.0

The estimate card. First release: badge-first sales estimates, revenue, and a plain-English verdict, right on the product page.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is this Amazon sales estimator?

When a “bought in past month” badge is available, the estimate is anchored to Amazon's own measured sales and the headline figure (floor × 1.2) is typically within the stated range of floor to floor × 1.5. Rank-only estimates are rougher — plan on the ±40% range shown. No third-party tool, paid or free, can do fundamentally better, because Amazon never publishes exact per-listing sales.

Why does the badge beat Best Sellers Rank?

The badge is Amazon summarising its own order data for that listing. BSR is relative (it depends on every other product in the category), can be stale, and is easily flattered by subcategory ranks. When both exist and disagree by more than 3×, Soldometer trusts the badge and tells you why on the result.

What's the difference between Amazon.ca and Amazon.com estimates?

The badge means the same on both — a floor of actual buyers. BSR does not: Amazon.ca sells roughly 12% of Amazon.com's volume at the same rank, so .ca rank-based estimates are scaled down automatically when you pick the .ca marketplace. Revenue is shown in CAD for .ca and USD for .com.

The listing has no badge. Can I still estimate it?

Yes — enter its Best Sellers Rank and main category. Listings without a badge often sell under ~50 units/month, so a rank-based estimate is frequently the only signal available. Just respect the wider ±40% range on the result.

Does it work for books?

Yes — Books has its own calibration curve (book ranks behave differently: a much deeper catalogue and longer tail). Enter the rank in Books. Note that a book's badge, when shown, still wins over the rank, and Kindle and paperback editions rank separately.

Why do different tools give different numbers for the same listing?

Because every estimator works from the same public signals — the bought badge and Best Sellers Rank — but each applies its own calibration: how it converts a badge floor into a headline figure, and how its rank curve is shaped for each category and marketplace. Different calibration, different number. That's exactly why Soldometer publishes its method, its calibration anchors, and a likely range on every estimate, so you can judge the figure instead of taking it on faith.

Is anything I type here tracked or sent anywhere?

No. The estimator runs entirely in your browser; there are no accounts and nothing you enter is transmitted or stored. If advertising is enabled on this page, Google may use cookies to serve ads — see the Privacy Policy below for details and opt-out links.

Can I see estimates automatically while I browse Amazon?

Yes — that's the Soldometer Chrome extension. It reads the badge, rank, price and reviews directly from the Amazon pages you open and shows the estimate on the page, using the identical model as this site.

How does the Founding 1,000 pricing work?

Everyone installs the extension free from the Chrome Web Store. On first use you activate with an email and your claim is numbered in order. Claims 1–1,000 are Founding Members — free forever, no card required. Claim 1,001 onward starts a free month; after that it's $5/month if you stay. Downloading alone doesn't reserve a spot — activation does, which keeps the count honest.

What happens after my free month?

If you activated after the founding spots filled, your first month is free with full access. You add a card when the trial starts, nothing is charged until day 31, and you can cancel during the trial and pay $0. If you stay, it's $5/month, cancel anytime. Founding Members are never charged.

Is this website estimator still free?

Yes. The estimator on this page stays free with no sign-up, whether or not you use the extension. Pricing only applies to the Chrome extension after its Web Store launch.

When can I claim a founding spot?

Claims open the day the Chrome Web Store listing goes live — that's when the live counter starts. Right now the extension is in manual-install testing (v0.7.0) and the store listing is in preparation, so no spots have been taken yet. The “Email me at launch” link in the Pricing section is the heads-up list until then.

About Soldometer

Soldometer was built for independent Amazon sellers doing product research the way it actually gets done: open a listing, ask “is this selling, and could the math work for me?”, get a straight answer with its working shown. It started as a private research tool, became a Chrome extension that overlays estimates on Amazon pages, and this public estimator is the version anyone can use with nothing to install.

Soldometer is an independent tool built in Vancouver, Canada. Not affiliated with Amazon.
